This analysis focuses on Mexicans\u2019 views of the U.S. and President Donald Trump, as well as how the U.S. and Mexican governments are handling migration at their shared border.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The data is from a survey of 1,050 Mexican adults conducted face-to-face from Feb. 12 to March 25, 2025. Interviews were conducted in Spanish. The survey is weighted to be representative of the Mexican adult population by gender, age, education, region, urbanicity and the probability of selection of the respondent. It is part of a larger Pew Research Center survey of public opinion in 25 countries, including the U.S., conducted in spring 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Based on a question in our survey, we grouped people into two political categories: those who support the political parties that were governing at the federal level when the survey was fielded, and those who did not. Last year, opinions were nearly the opposite: 61% of Mexicans saw the U.S. favorably and 33% saw it unfavorably.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This 32 percentage point drop in favorable views of the U.S. is <a href=\"https:\/\/beta.pewresearch.org\/pewresearch-org\/global\/2025\/06\/11\/views-of-the-united-states\/\">the steepest in any of the 24 countries we surveyed this year.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>Related: <\/em><\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/beta.pewresearch.org\/pewresearch-org\/global\/2025\/05\/01\/americans-views-of-allies-and-threats\/#americans-ratings-of-other-countries\"><em>Americans\u2019 ratings of other countries<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When it comes to the U.S. president, the vast majority of Mexican adults (91%) say they have little to no confidence in Trump to do the right thing regarding world affairs. By comparison, a smaller majority of Mexicans (60%) expressed little or no confidence in Biden in 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mexicans\u2019 lack of confidence in Trump extends to his approach to immigration policy: 87% have little or no confidence in his handling of the issue. It asked whether the governments of the U.S. and Mexico are doing a good or bad job \u201cdealing with the large number of people seeking asylum at the U.S. border with Mexico.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Around two-thirds of Mexicans (68%) say the U.S. government is doing a bad job in this regard<strong>, <\/strong>including 26% who say it is doing a <em>very<\/em> bad job. Last year, <a href=\"https:\/\/beta.pewresearch.org\/pewresearch-org\/short-reads\/2024\/08\/12\/how-mexicans-and-americans-view-each-other-and-their-governments-handling-of-the-border\/\">52% of Mexicans said the U.S. was doing a bad job<\/a> handling the large number of people seeking asylum at the border, including 13% who said it is doing a <em>very <\/em>bad job.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>Related: <\/em><\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/beta.pewresearch.org\/pewresearch-org\/politics\/2025\/06\/17\/americans-have-mixed-to-negative-views-of-trump-administration-immigration-actions\/\"><em>Americans Have Mixed to Negative Views of Trump Administration Immigration Actions<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In contrast, Mexicans continue to see their own government\u2019s management of the border positively. Roughly two-thirds (68%) say the Mexican government is doing a good job, up from 60% in 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Views of how the Mexican government is doing when it comes to the border are somewhat related to support for the ruling Morena party and its partners in last year\u2019s election, the Labor Party (PT) and the Ecologist Green Party of Mexico (PVEM). Among supporters, 74% say the Mexican government is doing a good job, compared with fewer, but still a majority share of, nonsupporters (60%) who say the same.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p
