Axios, NPR and The New York Times also have audiences with relatively high levels of formal education: More than half of adults who regularly get news from these outlets have a college degree. Overall, 36% of all U.S. adults are college graduates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">By comparison, Univision and Telemundo \u2013 the two major Spanish-language TV networks included in our survey \u2013 have the lowest percentages of college graduates in their audiences at 15% and 16%, respectively. Most Americans who regularly get news from these outlets are Hispanic, and Hispanic adults in the United States are less likely to have a college degree than U.S. adults overall (20% vs. 36%).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<details class=\"wp-block-details is-style-plus-icon has-border-color has-ui-gray-light-border-color has-ui-beige-very-light-background-color has-background has-sans-serif-font-family is-layout-flow wp-container-core-details-is-layout-61b01db2 wp-block-details-is-layout-flow\" style=\"border-width:1px;padding-top:var(--wp--preset--spacing--20);padding-right:var(--wp--preset--spacing--30);padding-bottom:var(--wp--preset--spacing--20);padding-left:var(--wp--preset--spacing--30);font-size:clamp(0.875em, 0.875rem + ((1vw - 0.2em) * 0.009), 0.88em);\"><summary>How we did this<\/summary>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Pew Research Center conducted this analysis as part of a larger study tracking news consumption and trust across a wide range of news sources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We regularly ask people about their&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/beta.pewresearch.org\/pewresearch-org\/journalism\/fact-sheet\/news-platform-fact-sheet\/\">news habits on various platforms<\/a>&nbsp;(e.g., television, print, radio and digital) and their&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/beta.pewresearch.org\/pewresearch-org\/short-reads\/2025\/05\/08\/republicans-have-become-more-likely-since-2024-to-trust-information-from-news-outlets-social-media\/\">levels of trust<\/a>&nbsp;in information from social media and national\/local news organizations in general. This study was designed to be more specific, looking at Americans\u2019 familiarity with, usage of and views toward 30 individual news sources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For this analysis, we surveyed 9,482 U.S. adults from March 10 to 16, 2025. Everyone who took part in the survey is a member of the Center\u2019s American Trends Panel (ATP), a group of people recruited through national, random sampling of residential addresses who have agreed to take surveys regularly. This kind of recruitment gives nearly all U.S. adults a chance of selection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Interviews were conducted either online or by telephone with a live interviewer. We also wanted to prioritize a range of news sources across different platforms, as well as both legacy news outlets and nontraditional news sources,&nbsp;all while keeping the list from becoming too long for survey respondents.&nbsp;This selection process is not perfect; we acknowledge that no list of 30 sources could represent the entirety of today\u2019s diverse and changing media environment. We believe this group of 30 provides an appropriate snapshot of media brands to help us study Americans\u2019 changing news habits. This is just below the national level of U.S. adults with bachelor\u2019s degrees. These three networks are all among Americans\u2019 most common sources of news, <a href=\"https:\/\/beta.pewresearch.org\/pewresearch-org\/journalism\/feature\/news-media-tracker\/\">according to our survey<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">CNN and Fox News also rank among the nation\u2019s most popular news sources. CNN\u2019s audience has a similar percentage of college graduates (38%) as U.S. adults overall, while Fox News has a somewhat lower share (27%).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>Related: <\/em><\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/beta.pewresearch.org\/pewresearch-org\/short-reads\/2025\/07\/17\/6-facts-about-fox-news\/\"><em>6 facts about Fox News<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A few other news sources with predominantly Republican audiences \u2013 including the Tucker Carlson Network, Newsmax and The Joe Rogan Experience \u2013 have similar shares of regular news consumers who are college graduates as Fox News.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Republican voters are generally less likely than Democratic voters to <a href=\"https:\/\/beta.pewresearch.org\/pewresearch-org\/politics\/2024\/04\/09\/the-changing-demographic-composition-of-voters-and-party-coalitions\/#education\">have a college degree<\/a>. But these differences in audiences\u2019 educational levels aren\u2019t just the result of partisan preferences for different outlets. Even <em>within<\/em> each party, the audiences of various news sources have widely different levels of educational attainment.
